During Japan’s isolationist period, when it closed itself off from foreign exchanges, Nagasaki’s Dejima served as the sole gateway to Western Europe. As a hub for economic, cultural, and academic interactions, it played a significant role in Japan’s modernization.
Much has been transmitted from Dejima, where Dutch culture intermingled , was perhaps the most cosmopolitan town in Japan at the time.
In Dejima, once at the heart of Japan’s cultural development, I hope visitors will enjoy an enchanting time while wearing kimonos and learning about Japan’s history.
